Assessing games from the distant past - Games History

When reviewing video games from the past, you need to keep in mind the limitations that the consoles had back when the particular title was released.

Console Games focussed more on game play rather
than anything else, making it one of the most important aspect of any retro review. This is mainly how the game plays, analysing if the controls are effective, the level design is interesting and fun, and the whole purpose or direction of the game feels decent.

Graphics are also considered, like in all games, though comparisons need to be made against games released around that similar time to give a clear definition to whether they are good or not. Sound of course is also to be considered, taking note of how many sound channels the system has such as the NES's five.

When giving retro games an overall rating, you need to think back to what gaming was like back then when the game was first released. It's clear to see whether a game has aged well or not in the current day, though if a fair review is to be given then the reviewer needs to defiantly consider what it was like playing the game first hand.
